The Barber design. The '8' in the date is over a '1' caused by the date being initially started too far to the right.

Only 2 examples are known with historical pedigrees as follows: To see images of all of these, click here.

1) Elder’s 37th sale (lot 292)-Newcomer?, Lohr, Cox-Stacks 4/62, Coronet Coin FPL, Merkin 6/71, Evans-B/M 8/98, Southern collection, Simpson-Heritage 4/21 - PCGS64BN but cleaned with lamination through date and lower right obverse - illustrated above, note the weak stars 5-7.

2) Elder’s 17th sale (lot 552)-Brand (journal #43924)?, Farouk-Sothebys 2/54, Judd, Numismatic Enterprises 2/66 ?, 66 ANA, Coronet Coin FPL, Merkin 2/71, Bass-HWBRF, B/M 5/99 as PCGS60RB cleaned, lacquered, rehabilitated, Heritage 1/07 (not sold), Heritage 1/08, B/M 2009 ANA, Stacks-Bowers 3/12, Heritage 1/13 - PCGS63BN, illustrated below courtesy of Heritage, note the full stars 5-7.

Note: The pedigrees above were expanded from the Coronet Coin FPL, the 2 Merkin sales and Pollock. They appear to be reversed prior to the Coronet Coin FPL as the Judd 1st-7th edition plate coin has weak stars 5-7 as in the first coin listed but the coin attributed to Judd in the pedigrees has full stars. The Elder 17th-Brand and Elder 37th-Newcomer sales may be reversed as well.

The listing in Judd for a silver example J1532 has been discredited.
