This is one of 6 Washington nickel patterns produced in 1909, 2 of which, like the present example have Washington's portrait facing to the left. This used to be J1786 in earlier editions.

This one has the date with small 9s the same size as the other numerals in the date.

The reverse is similar to one used in 1896 on J1770-J1772/P1986-P1989 but with the motto "E Pluribus Unum" added.

It is unique with the only example in the Smithsonian.
