This 1921 dollar, struck in nickel or white metal, was supposedly struck from defaced dies.

An example was seen at the 2002 ANA and had very porous surfaces and was an obvious fake to the half dozen of us who saw it. Another piece sold in the Bowers and Merena 11/84 sale. An example, struck in copper with even more defacement around the periphery, is in a Midwest collection and is illustrated below.

According to a well-respected numismatic researcher, these dies were made in England in the 1970s.
